Having art as part of daily life in public and private spaces adds social, cultural, and aesthetic value. Locations featuring public art become more attractive to individuals and businesses.
Murals are an accessible way to transform walls into landmarks. The presence of a mural establishes a visual identity, a vibe, and increases the quality of life throughout the community where it is situated.
Persimmon Project encourages each mural site to convene an ad-hoc Art Selection Team of at least three people representing various arms of the business/organization to participate in the artist selection, working directly with Persimmon Project's Art Committee. All levels of comfort with the arts are welcome to join the mural site's Art Selection Team... Perhaps especially the one who "can't draw a straight line."
If you have requests for a specific palette or other elements in your mural, we can include these in the Request for Proposals distributed to artists or in a mural commission. Let us know what your needs are.
Native plants have been ignored, which has been bad for pollinators, birds, frogs, and the quality of our water and air. Featuring native flora and fauna in public art will help raise awareness of these species. Be part of the movement to go back to our roots for the benefit of the planet.
Small local businesses/organizations and large international corporations in Virginia are... in Virginia! There is so much beauty here to highlight and be inspired by. Murals featuring natural themes are generally popular, why not feature those that represent your locale?
Browse the Plant NoVA Natives Guide and see them for yourself. The plants available for both planted and painted scenes are awesome.
Take a look at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries List of Native and Naturalized Fauna of Virginia to see names of fish, reptiles, amphibians, land and marine mammals, mollusks, crustaceans, insects, and more.
Murals vary in cost based on wall size, height, and other variables like equipment rental. Artists deserve a living wage, and we support them in that endeavor. Paint isn't as expensive as other materials used in public art. The value spent is worth the value added for years to come. We would like to work with your budget.
